Biodiversity and Land Use

 

The Division will pursue two (2) programmes, namely:

(i) Biodiversity Conservation

(ii) Land Use and Management

BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION PROGRAMME

Priority areas of research include:

  1. Forest and biodiversity values and services
  2. Biodiversity loss and damage to wildlife habitats
  3. Biological inventory and monitoring
  4. Species Distribution and Endemism
  5. Conservation priorities across the ecosystem
  • Ecosystem Diversity
  • Genetic Diversity
  • Species Diversity
  1. Invasive species
  2. Threatened Species and biodiversity hotspots
  3. Local Community involvement in protection of biodiversity
  4. Management of protected area systems: Areas of significant ecological importance such as Globally Significant Biodiversity Areas (GSBAs), Provenance Protection Areas (PPAs), ecologically sensitive and fragile areas (hill slopes, sanctuaries, estuaries, wetlands, etc.) and other areas with high biodiversity heat index
  5. Community dedicated reserves, including sacred groves and sanctuaries.

LAND USE AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

Research activities will include:

Rehabilitation and restoration of mined sites and degraded cocoa landscapes.

  • Farm Forestry
  • Urban Forestry
