Forest Industry Development

1. Efficient and Value-added Processing and Utilisation

    • Residue Reduction
    • Promote appropriate uses of wood products
    • Refine wood processing technology
    • Development of quality standards for forest products, including furniture and joinery sector in Ghana
    • Improving the wood quality of plantation grown species through processing techniques including quality indicators for assessment of plantation timber

2. Development of chemicals/extractives from forest and forest products, including the production of suitable resin/glue (preferably from local raw materials) for wood panel manufacture

3. Promotion of lesser used species, small diameter logs and wood residue utilisation

    • Efficient processing of LUS
    • Processing and utilization of small diameter logs
    • Processing of problem timber species (odour - Dahoma, Wisuboni, Esia; Skin irritation - Albizia, Antiaris, Denya, Ayan and Colour change.
    • Processing, utilization and promotion of rubberwood, coconut wood, oil palm and borassus palm as timber products
    • Efficient utilization of wood residues (e.g. energy generation, etc.).
