
Global Recognition for CSIR-FORIG Deputy Director Dr Lucy Amissah by the ITTO
The CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (CSIR-FORIG) is proud to announce that our Deputy Director, Dr Lucy Amissah, has been globally recognised by the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) as a leading woman in sustainable forest management.
In an official feature released for International Women’s Day, the ITTO highlighted Dr Amissah as one of five women worldwide whose contributions are significantly shaping the future of the world’s tropical forests.

Dr. Amissah’s recognition stems from her extensive expertise and leadership in wildfire management a critical component of forest management and forest conservation. Over the years, she has bridged the gap between national forest protection in Ghana and high-level international fire management strategy.
Her recent global impact includes:
International Fire Policy: Serving as a key contributor to the FAO-led Global Fire Management Hub, including a featured presentation at the Fire Hub Plenary Session in Rome in July 2025.
Provided technical contributions to the development of the FAO-led Integrated Fire Management (IFM) Assessment Tool and to the testing of the IFM governance module under the Global Fire Management Hub.
Contribution to the development of ITTO Fire Management Toolkit and making presentation on results of ex-post evaluation of two ITTO funded fire management projects during the Committee on Reforestation and Forest Management session at the 60th Session of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC-60) in Yokohama, Japan in December 2024.
As Deputy Director of CSIR-FORIG, Dr. Amissah continues to be a trailblazer for women in STEM and forestry research. Her inclusion in the ITTO’s global feature underscores the vital role that African scientists play in addressing sustainable forest management, integrated fire management, and climate change on the world stage.
