HNEE DELEGATION VISITS CSIR-FORIG

The Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung Eberswalde (HNEE), Germany, paid a working visit to the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (CSIR-FORIG) to explore areas of collaboration in forestry research, sustainability, and academic exchange. The delegation was led by Prof. Dr Matthias Barth, President of HNEE, and accompanied by his colleagues Prof. Dr Tobias Loewner and Manuela Pelz (Centre for International Affairs) The team was received by the Director of CSIR-FORIG, Dr Kwame Antwi Oduro, together with the Deputy Director, Dr Lucy Amissah and Heads of Division, including:

Dr Reginald Tang Guuroh
Dr. Caleb Ofori-Boateng
Dr Beatrice Obiri Darko
Dr. James Korang

Prof. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong led the HNEE delegation to formally meet the Director, who warmly welcomed them and introduced the management team present.

The Deputy Director delivered a brief yet insightful presentation highlighting CSIR-FORIG’s mandate, research focus areas, and impact in Ghana’s forestry and wood industries.

In his remarks, Prof. Matthias Barth introduced his colleagues and expressed his admiration for the impressive work being undertaken by CSIR-FORIG. He discussed the possibility of exchange programmes between Ghana and HNEE, emphasising academic cooperation and knowledge sharing. Prof. Barth noted that he had personally gained new insights from the presentation.

Dr Beatrice Obiri Darko, Head of the Department of CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST), elaborated on the school’s mandate and welcomed the idea of academic and research exchange programmes.

In his closing remarks, the Director thanked the HNEE delegation for the visit and reaffirmed that CSIR-FORIG’s doors remain open for collaboration that advances sustainable forestry research and strengthens international partnerships.
