In 2017, CSIR-FORIG's funds for research increased with the initiation of seven new projects. This enabled the Institute to expand its research. focus into more communities. Over the last year (2017), a total number 23 projects were implemented comprising nineteen (19) pure research projects and four (4) service-oriented activities. Seventeen (17) of the research projects were undertaken in collaboration with other national and international institutions.
Under the Food Security and Poverty Reduction theme, research activities focused on the domestication and utilization of Prekese (a highly valued medicinal plant) by local communities. In addition, the Institute engaged in snail farming and beekeeping training programmes for interested clients.
