Grow with Terraformation: Apply to Our Next Accelerator Cohort in Ghana or Kenya

"The forest restoration company, Terraformation, has launched its next call for applications to its Seed to Carbon Forest Accelerator program. The program helps cohorts of local implementation partners develop their respective reforestation carbon projects and connect to carbon financing. Terraformation’s fifth cohort will focus on Ghana and Kenya and will consider applications received by Sep 30."

Terraformation is expanding its partnerships in Ghana and Kenya through the fifth cohort of the Seed to Carbon Forest Accelerator. This program helps participants prepare for the registration and implementation of their reforestation carbon projects, including both native forest restoration and agroforestry. This, in turn, helps these projects find carbon buyers to fund the planting, maintenance, and monitoring involved in reforestation work.

Our next cohort will build on the experience gained from previous participants. In Ghana, for example, we’ve begun planting for the Regenerative Development of Anlo Wetlands Project (ReDAW), a mangrove restoration project funded by carbon credits in partnership with Seawater Solutions and local communities.

Terraformation is looking for project proposals that meet the following criteria:
Location: Tropical moist forest or mangrove projects in Ghana or Kenya
Size: Minimum 3,000 ha of reforestable area (larger projects will be more competitive). Please note that this excludes any land cleared of natural forest within the past 10 years.
Budget: Estimated cost ≤ $3,500 USD/ha, including all implementation costs..
Species: No invasive species. Non-native and non-invasive species can be used, but projects using a higher proportion of native species will be more competitive.
Native forest: Plant 10+ native tree species (3+ for mangrove projects).
Agroforestry: Plant at least 1 crop and 3 native tree species per hectare.
Experience: Applicants with forest management, reforestation experience, and existing infrastructure (e.g., nurseries, roads) are preferred. For agroforestry projects, applicants must have experience selling agricultural products.
Community relationships: Applicants should have established relationships with local communities and proven experience working with them.
Land and carbon rights: Applicants must have (or be able to secure) land ownership and transferable carbon rights for at least 40 years.
Group projects: If working with cooperatives or aggregated landowners, provide evidence of successful collaboration.
Language: At least some staff must speak conversational English.

Apply by September 30 for the upcoming cohort. Late applications will be considered for future cohorts.
